Ted is a Young Ambassador for Alder Hey Children’s Charity and in 2014 won a Pride of Britain award as Young Fundraiser of the Year.

In September 2015, Ted won a special Just Giving Happy List Award, following a public vote organised by the Independent on Sunday.

Meet Ted

Ted McCaffery was just one year old when he was diagnosed with subaortic stenosis after doctor’s spotted a heart murmur during a check-up. Children with this condition have an extra flap of skin growing in the aortic valve.

During his annual checkup three years later, doctors became concerned that Ted’s condition had deteriorated and he required an urgent operation. Ted underwent surgery to repair the damaged valve.

Ted spent 24 hours in intensive care and nine days in hospital and was off school for three months. He continues to recover and has played rugby for Warrington RUFC under 7’s team, as well as raising funds for Alder Hey by taking part in a mini triathlon.

He was prompted to fundraise after discovering that the TV next to his hospital bed was broken and he wanted the next child in his bed to have one.
